Why is that some men want to have a lot of children but don't want to be there to father them? Is it some kind of game? The man with the most off spring wins! These men need to get over themselves. Life isn't a game. There are millions of children out there who suffer because of this.
As parents, we learn how to be a parent from our parents, who learned it from their parents and so on... That doesn't give our future generations very much hope. What example are we setting for our children when we walk out on them? What are we telling them? That its OK to make a baby but you don't have to take care of it.
Being a mother of an amazing 11 year old son, I often worry about how he will turn out. I know that he knows right from wrong and he probably will be very educated and successful in the career he chooses. But how will he be as a parent or father? That's what worries me.
His father has been out of the picture for over 4 years now. They didn't have a good relationship to start. I often talk with my my son about his father, because I know how hurt he was from the abusive he endured both physically and verbally from him. I want to let him know that he doesn't have to be like his father. That he isn't genetically inclined to make the same mistakes.
Sometimes boys become just like their fathers and other times they become the opposite. They become the fathers they wish they had.My son often tells me, "Mom, I 'm not going to be like dad. I am going to love my kids and be there for them." I hope and pray that he means what he says. My son is only 11 now, but in 15 to 20 years he will probably be a father. I hope I am still around to be there and support him emotionally.
I hope that someday soon I will find a man that will be a good husband and a great dad. I know my kids wish for it everyday. I want them to know that there are good fathers out there, even if they are not your biological one.
For all you "good" fathers out there, keep up the good work!

Where did all the days go?
I know I haven't posted anything since the end of May, for that I am apologize. It's not that I didn't have anything to say but I just couldn't get the quite time to say it. You see my kids have been home from school since the first week of June and that changes everything. My quite time in the mornings are no longer quite. The kids constantly compete for my attention. I am lucky if I can check my email and Face book accounts.
I did get a bit of a break for a few days when I sent three of my children to camp. It was only for five days but hey it's better than nothing. My oldest child stayed home with me. She always complains that we never get to do anything with each other. So she got me for five whole days to herself. We went to the movies, out to dinner, and shopping at the mall. I walked with her to library and even went to visit the "Bird Lady". You would think she would be happy right? Guess again, she wasn't. No matter what I did with her or where I took her she still seemed down. Go figure!
Now over a month later, I am finally able to get online and blog. Sorry there wasn't a whole lot of excitement to blog about. Maybe after the fourth of July I will have more to tell you. Until I log on again. Have a safe and Happy Fourth of July everyone!

The Chosen One by Nadyah age 9
One mysterious morning something strange happened. Something weird that only one person would discover the one that has been chosen. His name is Mustafa he is a karate master. He taught several students, they are all very good at karate today. Only one student quit.
But one day when he had come home his house was empty. First he thought he was robed. Then he thought he had a trick played on him. He had a guard dog that was now gone. It just happened that his German Sheppard has been injured and stolen.
Now Mustafa must find out. Mustafa had no bed, so he slept at his karate school. He decided to find out what is up the next morning. The next morning he went home. He had no classes to teach. He observed his house quickly. Then he went to Dunkin Donuts. He had two donuts with a large coffee. He sat there for a while. Then he read the newspaper.
On his way home he stopped by his friends place, who was a fortuneteller. He said he had a bad spell upon him. This spell is the hardest to break. Mustafa asked,Ryan how can I break this spell? I know somebody who will know the answer, said Ryan. Ryan took him to a woman’s house. Her name is Taylor. Together they told her the problem. Taylor told them this must have happened in the afternoon or in the morning after Mustafa left to work.
That night Mustafa and Taylor went to dinner to discuss the awful plight. He and Ryan had stayed at the Blue blinds hotel that night. The next morning they all met at Taylor’s place. They then told his fortune again.
A year later Taylor and Mustafa got married. It happened that Taylor proposed to Mustafa. Taylor and Ryan informed Mustafa about the plight. Mustafa we can’t fix this spell, but we can tell you it can’t be fixed, they said. You’ll just have to move on. If any unusual things happen, it may be this same spell. The only way to stop it is to convince the person who started it to stop it or it will run through our family. We will start a family? Mustafa asked in surprise. Maybe so, said Taylor. This all depends on if we get the spell broken. First, I must find out who put this on me.
Mustafa thought about who he did not see in a long time. He also thought about people who practiced black magic. His brother’s friends know magic. He did not know who did it. Years went by. Over the years,Taylor and Mustafa had children on their hands. A girl named Hadyah and a boy named Adam.
One dark night Adam was screaming. Mustafa walked in asking what’s wrong my son? Adam was to frighten to talk. Then he noticed on Adam’s hand in messy writing it said YOUR NEXT! Now the question is what will happen next? Who played this spell? Those are unanswerable questions.

Recycled Movies
Although I love a good book, I really enjoy a good movie as well. But because I refuse to pay $9 to see a movie in a theater, I opt for renting or buying the movie instead. I am a big advocate of buying previewed movies. Maybe that's the green in me. I rarely ever buy a new movie unless it is on sale. Of the 200+ movies my family owns, maybe 20 of them were bought "brand new".
As I acquire "newer" movies, I donate the ones I am tired of or didn't really like to my local library. The librarian there loves me, she looks forward to my bag of goodies every three months or so. Not only am I recycling my recycled movies to the library for others to enjoy but it's a great tax write off as well. I have noticed that since I started donating my movies, others followed suit. It's nice to start a recycling trend.
Another way I recycle my movies is to give my kids "outgrown movies" to younger kids. I happen to have three young nieces that live near me so I give them a lot of the "outgrown movies". It's nice to know that the movies are being used over and over again. And for any of you out there with children you know what I mean, kids can watch a movie over and over again without skipping a beat.
If you are wondering how much I spend on a movie, I buy my previewed copies for about $3 to $4 a movie. As for renting I have a Blockbuster online account were I get 2 movies a week sent to me. I also get in store exchanges as well, that way I can see a new movie on the first day it releases. And don't forget your local library, plenty of oldies but goodies to view for free. You can't beat that price.

Face Book & Finding Friends
I have been on Face Book for over 3 years now. When I was invited to join by a friend, I thought why not. I wasn't a fan of My Space, a bit to adolescent for me. Anyway the first year on Face Book I only had 25 friends. Apparently it wasn't that popular three years ago. The next year I was up to 50 friends, of the 50 only 40 were actual people I knew. Three years later I have over 500 friends. Face book is amazing. I have found old childhood friends, former classmates, coworkers and bosses. I even found ex-boyfriends. The amazing thing is that almost everyone is Face Booking now.
The other day on FB I found a very dear friend of mine I had lost touch with. It had been over 18 years since I last heard from her. I had been looking for her for years, the one mutual friend we had, had no idea where she was. So you can imagine how excited I was to finally find her on FB. Once she confirmed it was me, she called me from the United Kingdom, where she now lives. We talked for hours, it melted all the those years away.
We talked about marriage, divorce, children, our jobs, lost loves, you name we talked about it. It was so nice catching up on our lives. All the while my kids were trying to get my attention. I just kept moving from room to room to find a quite place to keep talking. It worked because we were on the phone for a couple of hours.
Anyway, FB is amazing. If you aren't on it you don't know what you are missing. Try it you just might like it. You'll never know who you'll find.

Nasty Neighbors
I have lived in the same house for over 8 years. In those 8 years I have never had a problem with my neighbors. In fact, I considered them very good friends. Although when I first moved in, the woman next door wasn't very friendly. It took a good four years before she really warmed up to me. I guess I ignored the signs at first. I didn't want to believe that I lived next to someone who was prejudice. But after last night, what wasn't clear before became so vivid. After 8 years of dealing with this woman, she finally showed her true colors.
I have done favors for this women over the past 8 years and even invited her over for every major holiday. I tolerated her gossip about other neighbors, which I now regret. Most of her gossip was about the other "white" families, so I didn't think she was prejudice just noisy. She really didn't bother me, in fact she was generous to me. She gave me things that she bought and later decided she didn't want. She is a bit of a shopaholic. I would ask her why she didn't return it back to the store, she would say that it was embarrassing. So I ended up with brand new clothes and shoes every season.
Everything seemed all right until another woman moved in two doors down from us. As usual I was the first to welcome her and invited her to my home. Although I had nothing in common with this woman, I befriended her and introduced her to the other neighbors. I invited her to every cook out or party I had. I even had her over for all the holidays since she told me she was alone.
Ironically, my next door neighbors didn't seem to like her at first. But when the Hispanic family moved in, all heck broke loose. The first thing out of the single woman's mouth was "I wish the Black family who looked at the house moved in because at least they speak English." My neighbor of 8 years said "There goes the neighborhood, I guess it's time to move."
I tried to ignore these comments, I chalked it up to their ignorance. But last night was the straw that broke the camels back. Since the weather was warm all the children on the block were playing outside. There are about 10 kids on the block, 2 Caucasian, 4 Hispanics, and 4 African Americans. They all get along and don't have issues about race or ethnicity.
All 10 children were playing from one end of the block to the other. Their favorite past time is tag and hide and go seek. As the children were running up and down the block, the two women were sitting on the porch yelling at them. Saying things like "you dirty children get away from my property" and "look at those muddy children". As if that wasn't bad enough, they threatened to call the police on them.
Why would two old women in their 60's be bothering children? I don't know. The kids have played up and down on the block for years. In fact last summer, the women who didn't associated with each other sat on their own porches and minded the children. Sometimes giving them treats or just talking to them. What changed???
Last summer there were 2 bi racial children, 2 Caucasian and 4 African Americans. Could it be that the addition of 4 Hispanic children upset their balance? The 2 bi racial children moved out and 2 Hispanic children moved in. The other 2 Hispanic children have lived here for 8 years but were just recently allowed to play with the other children. My home has always been the "hang out house". All children are welcome and I am the one parent who keeps an eye on them at all times.
Now being of African descent, I wonder what they really think of me and my cjildren. I guess you never really now someone until they show their true colors. I think the reason they are friends now reminds me of the old saying about "birds of a feather flock together".

Breaking the Cycle of Pain
For those of you out there who suffer from constant pain, I feel for you. For I too suffer from constant pain all over my body. Last week I decided it was time to break the cycle of pain. I bit the bullet and went to see two new specialists who could help me break the cycle. First, a podiatrist who injected both my feet with a steroid based fluid. I don't want to know what's in it, just tell me it will stop the pain. I also got my left ankle injected as well. I won't lie and tell you it didn't hurt, because it hurt like the dickens. I was always taught that after great pain comes great relief. By the way, I have two more sessions of injections for the feet.
The second specialists I saw was an orthopedic specialist. Who by the way is very cute. He told me he could give me relief for at least 6 months. Now that's a promise I don't always believe, but I'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, he too gave me injections in both knees with this new type of medicine which is not steroid based. The first injection was cake, no problem. But dam the second injection, talk about pain. That bad boy hurt pretty bad. In fact I couldn't even leave the doctor's office for an hour due to the pain. After an hour and a pain pill later, I was able to walk out. I have two more injections to go, let's hope the next session is less painful.
The next day, both feet were a lot better. The ankle was still a bit sore and stiff, but that is probably due to the fact that there was quite a bit of scar tissue. The knees have a new lease on life. For the first time in years, it didn't hurt to go up and down the stairs. Can't wait to see what progress the next injections do. I also have to get both my shoulders and left hip shot up too. But I guess I'll wait until the feet and knees are all done with.
I guess you are wondering why it took me so long to try all this. I guess the real reason is I just got sick and tired of all the pain medications, which by the way didn't really work for me. My family doctor prescribed me everything on the market, nothing stopped all the pain. I have tried various alternative methods, some worked temporarily and some did nothing at all. The ones I got some relief from unfortunately weren't covered by insurance. They got to be quite expensive after awhile. Anyway, I guess in the end I got tired of being in pain. Although it has been painful to endure the injections, I guess what they say is true: "No pain no gain.

A Must Have Book
I got a phone call from a childhood friend last night, we spent hours on the phone. We were talking about our children, the weather, people we knew and then of course my favorite subject: alternative medicine. Why is this one of my favorite subjects? Well let's see, after being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis 7 years ago and struggling with IBS most of my life, you try and find alternatives to help your aliments.
One of the best books out there on alternative medicine is "Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide" 2nd Edition which is edited by Larry Trivieri, Jr. & John W. Anderson. This book covers everything from addictions to worms. It is a pretty big book, over 1200 pages. In this guide I have found answers to so many of my health questions. After each section there is a "where to find help" listing and also "recommended readings".
I highly recommend this book for everyone. This is a great reference to have on your shelves. But you don't have to take my word for it, here is what Deepak Chopra, M.D. said "If you are interested in the alternative medicine of any kind, and want the security of authenticity in this field, you'd better get Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide."

My first day blogging.
Today is the first day of my blog. As you can see from the title, it is about nothing, something and everything. I choose the title "Much Ado About Nothing" because I didn't want to be stuck talking about one subject. For those of you out there, who's brains race with many random thoughts, may appreciate this blog eventually.
Wow! where do I start? It is 10:15AM EST and I am blogging. I really never thought I would do this. I guess I thought I had nothing to say. Anyway, I have been on Face Book for a few years and noticed that several of my friends had blogs, so why not me?
I guess I can make a list of things I would like to talk about. I am very good at making lists. I'm just no good at following them. So bear with me while I get my feet wet at this blogging thing. If you have any suggestions, by all means email me, I am willing to consider them.
